Comedian Bobby Davro has rejected the idea of renaming the Surrey town of Staines to improve its image.
Councillors in the town are meeting on Monday to discuss changing the name to Staines-upon-Thames.Campaigners say they are fed up with its continued association with the TV character Ali G.
Mr Davro said the character made Staines well known and efforts to change the town's name are "pompous and snobby".
