Ronnie Corbett says today's comics are so intent on trying to shock they aren't funny

Ronnie Corbett has hit out at modern comedians, claiming they are too interested in shocking audiences or trying to be clever to be genuinely funny.
Corbett, who turns 80 next month, said his refusal to join the crowd and ‘eff and blind’ on screen had seen him cast aside as a has-been.
His criticisms of today’s comics will strike a chord with many TV viewers.

‘There are many around who do not really have a feel for comedy,’ Corbett said in an interview with Saga magazine.
‘They can say outrageous things, have clever thoughts and deliver some funny angles. They are not genuinely funny.
‘They walk on, stand at the microphone, deliver and walk off again.’
Corbett has once more become a regular screen presence with cameo roles in series such as Ricky Gervais’s Extras and Little Britain, but he said his resistance to swearing had made it harder to find work than in his heyday.
