Russell Brand - Arthur Interview

It's not easy remaking a beloved movie, but British comedian Russell Brand is taking a stab at it and says audiences should be prepared for lots of laughs! Russell stars alongside Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner in "Arthur," a comedy about a wealthy aristocrat. Based on the 1981 movie of the same name, "Arthur" follows the exploits of a rich drunk who is supposed to marry an heiress but instead falls for a woman his family doesn't like.

http://www.Tribute.ca 's Bonnie Laufer spoke with Russell in Los Angeles about taking on a character that Dudley Moore made famous, relating to Arthur's exploits, how married life with the lovely Katy Perry is going and how cool it is to take a ride in the Batmobile.

Russell Brand: Prince Charles was scared of me

Russell Brand worried he’d “buckled” Britain’s Prince Charles’ “arthritic wrist” when the pair met at a recent event.

The 35-year-old comedian saw the royal at the Pride of Britain awards ceremony recently and the union didn’t go as well as Russell would have liked.

Instead of shaking the Prince of Wales’ hand politely he took too strong a grip, refused to let it go and ended up frightening the 62-year-old away.

“I was shoved into him [Prince Charles] and I saw a moment in his eyes as we shook hands when he realised, ‘That's that mad comedian,’ Russell said on US talk show Live With Regis & Kelly.

“And he sort of tried to get away. I had him in a bit of a grip. I was holding on, thinking, ‘This is my moment. I'm not letting him go just yet.’ There was a moment where he was trying to recoil and I heard his wrist click a bit. It's so ridden with protocol it's very difficult to relax. You don't want to do the wrong thing and you end up buckling an arthritic wrist.”

Russell - who was promoting his new film The Tempest - divulged that his well-documented charm also failed on the Prince’s wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. When he met her next in the line the only word he could think to exclaim was her title.

Russell confessed the royal-meeting was one of the rare events he felt completely out of his depth and on edge.

“Because I was panicking I just looked at her and went, 'A duchess!' I just shouted at her what she was,” Russell recalled.

Russell Brand and Lord Alan Sugar bond at Pride of Britain Awards

The pair were sat together on a very high profile table which included the likes of Jonathan Ross and deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Lord Sugar, now known as a prolific Tweeter, took to his social networking page before the prestigious awards to update his followers: 'Going to Pride of Britain awards now. I am going to present an award to a great young man.'
With a comedian, a deputy prime minster, a chat show host and one of Britain’s top businessmen on one table, it was bound to be an interesting night but Lord Sugar got the ball rolling by accidently calling Russell Brand the wife of Jonathan Ross.

Writing on his social-networking page upon hearing who he'd be sitting with he said: ‘Just heard I will be sitting on a table with Jonathan Ross his wife Russell Brand and wait for it Nick Clegg depute pm oh happy times!!’
Within minutes dozens of his followers tweeted him and poked fun at his faux pas prompting him to write back: 'Shut up will you all about Ross brand wife stuff we are starved for commas with 140 ch you know what I mean you smart ar..'

But by the time the awards came around, Russell too was in a fun-loving mood as he took to the celebrity favourite, Twitter, to say: 'At a table with Lord Sugar, which is what the Oompa-Loompas call Willy Wonka.'
But it was clear, despite being compared to a chocolate-loving fictional character, Alan was taken by the British funnyman and tweeted after the event: 'Great night at pride of Britain awards some great people well deserved award.

'Russell Brant really nice bloke sat next to him and his mum last night.'
Russell Brant? He may be a multi-millionaire businessman but he really needs to swot up on his spelling...
