BILLY Connolly has revealed that he almost landed a part playing Doctor Who - but didn't have a clue until after the role was cast.
The 67-year-old Scottish comedian, who is a huge fan of the show, was considered to play the Time Lord in a TV movie in the mid 90s.
Billy said: "It was brought up in a meeting, apparently, but nobody told me until after they decided against it. I would have loved it. I'd have taken it."
The role in the 1996 TV movie eventually went to Withnail And I star Paul McGann.
